Okay, wow. I totally hadn’t realized that it had been two months since I last posted. I have a really bad habit of only updating once or twice a year (I’m trying to change that, I promise!) so I guess that made it feel like it was just yesterday that I shared my vision for our master bedroom. I have made so many changes that I’m so excited about!
There are some things that I don’t love, but since we are renting I’m not worried about putting in the money in to fixing them, mainly being our old windows, the ceiling fan, and the paint. The color itself is great, but I would much prefer a more bright, creamy white, rather than the grey that we have. The paint is actually the same all throughout the house, but the color looks warmer or cooler in specific rooms based on the direction the windows face. You can tell how much the color changes by just looking at these photos.

Our bedroom is on the large side and has five windows that bring in a ton of natural light that makes the room feel even bigger. The very first thing that I did to this room was add curtains. I chose these natural tan and white striped curtains from Walmart. If you’re looking for a set that are light blocking/anything other than pretty, these aren’t the ones, but they sure are pretty! I personally love their texture and neutral colors. We still need to add another set on the single window in what is my husbands “study corner” but the rods that we have are currently out of stock so I’m waiting patiently to find a match.

I ended up going a different route with the bedding than I had originally planned , because my local Target had this set for $30. Originally I had wanted something with a less busy pattern and to add a colorful throw, but I LOVED this floral set and when I saw the price I couldn’t pass it up. I actually paired it with a set of 100% cotton sheets from Walmart that are TO DIE FOR. We had been using a linen set from Target for the last 18 months or so, and they don’t hold a candle to the softness of these. Do not be fooled by their 300 thread count. These are THE softest sheets I’ve ever owned. They are especially great for right now, when it is blazing hot outside. They keep us cool all night long. We are still waiting on a bed frame/headboard, and I think that will help pull the entire room together. Right now all of our furniture is the same height, so I really need something taller to help break up the monotony.

We have had our nightstands since we first got married. They were a Big Lots purchase that have seen better days, but they’re still mostly functional (mostly, because the tops don’t actually attach 😛 ) I think they are too small for our current space but for now they do the trick just fine. I did spray paint them from white to a rich, bright navy with this matte ink blue spray paint. I’m hoping to change the knobs eventually, too. I added the rug to the room on a whim, and I am a bit overwhelmed by the amount of blue in this room. Originally I had wanted there to be pops of blue with the nightstands, but the rug added a bit too much, so I’m thinking I might end up painting them again soon. Suggestions would be more than welcome! I am still wanting this room to be very warm and cozy with just the right balance of masculine and feminine, and right now all of the blue is adding more coolness than I would like.

My two favorite things in our room are the framed Vicenza print and the fiddle leaf fig that I picked up for FREE on the side of the road! Vicenza is the Italian city where we lived for the first three years of marriage. It will always and forever be my home away from home, and this print is my daily reminder of that beautiful city.

I’m still trying to figure out exactly how to style this dresser. Right now I’ve got several photos of us and a few little trinkets. I think adding a second lamp to give more dimension and height would be the perfect addition. And of course, adding curtains to the last window to frame it all in.

The chair pictured is actually an extra chair from our dining table that fits the space perfectly! That is, until my husband actually starts doing medical school work and moves a much more practical office chair to this spot.

We swapped out our antique tiered, dark wood dresser for this gorgeous mid century modern one that we inherited from my husbands grandparents. I recently just got the photo above the dresser and I love it, but I’m not totally sure how it fits in with this space. I needed something to go above the dresser and this was just about the right size and has all of the colors that I’m using, but I don’t know that I’m going to keep it there. Right now, all of the furniture in the room is exactly the same height and it is driving me MAD! We hung our curtains about 6 inches above the window frames to draw the eyes up, and I also moved one of our more decorative/ornate mirrors in to the bedroom to add even more height, light and warmth to the space.
The room isn’t exactly HGTV worthy and there’s a lot of things that could be improved or changed, but for right now I am so happy with this cozy little space of ours. It’s already like a totally different room when you compare it to the photo of the day after we moved in. I can’t wait to see the rooms progression over time.
And here’s where I leave you with a photo montage of my youngest being a total ham for the camera. Clearly she loves the new bedding just as much as I do.
Until next time,
