Cheers to 28 🍾🎉
I think, without a doubt, 27 was the best year yet and I’m so incredibly grateful to God for everything. Including this sweet chunky gift that was given to me back in April, and this incredible photo taken by my sweet friend @hellofromtheroberts.
Also, 27 was first year in my entire life that my hair finally decided to grow below my shoulders. Pretty dang stoked about that tbh.

Just took my latest make out of the dryer and had

Just took my latest make out of the dryer and had to put it on my peg rail with all the others. This one is going to it’s forever home on Sunday and I pray it can be a cuddly comfort for the baby that will soon be wrapped in it. Before then, I’m totally taking advantage of its beauty while it’s here and keeping it hung so I can stare at it all day long 😍 Will share more of this beauty soon ❤️

My favorite part of the quilting process is the bi

My favorite part of the quilting process is the binding. It’s such a small detail, but one that, imo, matters a great bit! I can’t wait to add this mustard floral binding to this gorgeous earth toned quilt I’ve been working on. And then comes the hand quilting 😍 I hand finish my binding on to my quilts for that extra special, heirloom quality touch.
I am slowly but surely perfecting my skills so that I can soon maybe start making a few quilts to sell ☺️

Today is the feast of Blessed Princess Olga, Equal

Today is the feast of Blessed Princess Olga, Equal to the Apostles. She is my patron Saint.
When converting to Orthodoxy from Protestantism, the concept and intercession of Saints was something that was very foreign to me and took a while for me to become comfortable with. But the Saints are our great cloud of witnesses that stand before God himself, therefore we should not be afraid to ask for their intercessions!
When it came time to chose my patron Saint, whose name I would take at baptism, I chose St. Olga. She herself was a a convert to Orthodoxy, from paganism. (She’s the patron Saint of converts!) Prior to her baptism, she was a strong, fierce, and wise leader, not only in her military efforts (she took brutal revenge on the people who killed her husband, Igor) but also in building her kingdom.
While on pilgrimage to strengthen ties with the Byzantine Empire, St. Olga was able to attend church services at Hagia Sophia in Constantinople and ultimately was baptized in to the Orthodox Church.
She spent the remainder of her life dedicated to converting her people from paganism and also building of churches throughout the land. Her grandson, St. Vladimir, successfully Christianized all of Kievian-Rus.
St. Olga, pray for us! ☦️

Today our sweet John celebrates his first Names Da

Today our sweet John celebrates his first Names Day. In the Orthodox Church, we celebrate what is referred to as our names day, which is the feast day of our patron Saint, who’s name we took at our baptism. .
Our John is named after Saint John the Wonderworker. Here’s an excerpt of his life from my friend @asceticlifeofmotherhood

Born in southern Russia on June 4, 1896 to well-off parents, John Maximovitch (baptized “Michael”) was a frail boy who loved to study. In spite of the fact that he was born with one leg shorter than the other and had a speech impediment, young Michael pursued his journey with determination and faith. Throughout his growing up years, Michael was exposed to true holiness as his family attended church regularly and took him to visit holy icons and the relics of holy people. These experiences had a profound and lasting impact on his life. Although exiled from his homeland due to the Bolshevik revolutionaries, he became a Russian Cadet, and then monk, seminary teacher and, eventually, Archbishop John of Shanghai and San Francisco. John was a very humble man all of his life. A great man of prayer and tireless traveler to wherever his help was needed, Saint John Maximovitch performed many miracles on the five continents he crossed. His angelic life was a true comfort to people who were in need and in all kinds of pain. He helped the building of churches, hospitals, and orphanages and was intensely active, constantly praying and serving the daily cycle of services, while also visiting the sick with the Holy Gifts. He often would walk barefooted even in the coldest days. Yet to avoid the appearance of secular glory, he would pretend to act the fool. He gave generously to the needy and served the poor without a thought for his own needs. He was known for his asceticism and was also so close to God that he was endowed with the gift of clairvoyance, and there were healings by his prayers.

He reposed July 2nd 1966 at the age of 70 years old, and he is entombed in a sepulchre beneath the altar of the church the Joy of all Who Sorrow Church in San Francisco.

A couple of months ago I talked about how I wanted to make a peg rail/shelf for this empty wall in my living room.
Two weeks ago, for approximately half our life savings on lumber, my husband built the shelf of my dreams. Now I want to make ALL THE THINGS! Ya know, once it doesn’t cost $807 for a 1x4.
Also, I can’t wait to fill this spot with even more quilts! I was hoping I’d be able to finish a few this summer, but three needy children make that nearly impossible. 😅

First beach trip was a success (mostly 😅) Traveling with lots of small kids is ROUGH. But seeing the joy on their faces makes it worth it. ❤️

Hot Springs has some of the most beautiful archite

Hot Springs has some of the most beautiful architecture I’ve seen in America. I am an absolute sucker for anything built pre 1950. Especially the early 1900s-1920s. I long for the days of elegance and sophistication that were of a century ago. Hot Springs truly showed the beauty of that era, but it pained my heart that the city as a whole was mostly dilapidated and overall sad.

Long gone are the days of intricacy and beautiful craftsmanship. We’ve traded the details for efficiency and convenience.
This has translated to every facet of life, not just our buildings. From the way we dress, the way we cook, even the way we go to church. Why wear a dress when leggings will do? Why cook a meal from scratch when it only takes 5 minutes to go through the drive through? why go to church to worship our Creator, when you can just watch a service from the comfort of your couch?
We’ve advanced so much technologically, but it seems that in doing so, we’ve lost all beauty. And I don’t think most of us even realize it. When’s the last time you stopped to admire something truly beautiful? I hope that you’ll slow down to do it, and just maybe create something beautiful on your own.
