Wow. I can’t believe it’s actually real. It’s actually happening. My husband not only got in to medical school, but our number one choice of med school!
One night, almost two years ago to the day, we were lying in bed and my husband told me his plans for school had changed, and he wanted to try going to med school. I gave him my full support right then and there. I’ve always known he could do anything he set his mind to, even if they were huge, major things.
It’s been a really intense year of lots of studying, patience, more studying, and countless prayers on our part and just about everyone we know. His days have been so incredibly long, taking anywhere from 16-18 hours a semester, working twenty+ hours a week, and studying on top of that. Oh, and studying for the MCAT and actually applying to med school was probably just as, if not more, time consuming than his typical course load.
We are absolutely thrilled to be heading to my husbands hometown, which is only an hour north from mine. For the first time in almost 8 years of marriage, we will live near family and have help with our babies! I AM SO STINKING EXCITED!!! This exact situation, the school, the location, everything, is exactly what we’ve prayed for for two years now, so to see it come to fruition is so incredible. God is so good y’all!
To be honest, I’m really terrified of the intensity of frugality that we’re going to have to live with for the next four-ish years. And I can’t say I’m really ready for the intense studying and hours that med school is going to require from my husband. But I know that in the end it’s all going to be so worth it. We’re just under seven months out from our moving date, and nine from the start of med school. My husband will be starting school not only a wife, but with a one and three year old, so our journey through this will be a little unconventional and undoubtedly insanely hard at times, but I can’t wait to document this season of our lives and experience this truly incredible opportunity! While I’m terrified of it, I’m also really eager to share our story with others, and hopefully help someone else in our situation in the future!
